“I’d never thought I’d become a farmer…I never thought I could love a chicken either. All it took was a botany class and an encouraging professor and I was hooked.” Aston Ward got her feet wet at Delaware Valley College’s Farm Market and then as a summer intern at a nursery in the shadows of Mt. Hood outside of Portland Oregon.
After graduating from DelVal she discovered her passion for farming as an intern at Blooming Glen Farm. Despite it being one of the rainiest and coldest seasons, she fell in love with farm work, relationships with customers, and growing food for her community. From there, she became Assistant Farm Manager of Branch Creek Farm in Perkasie where she learned from the very best how to grow specialty veggies and micro-greens for restaurants. She also had the opportunity to raise a friendly flock of hens from lil’ peeps to egg producers.
Aston is involved with everything from crop selection, planning, marketing, driving the tractor, planting and weeding too. She’s excited to continue growing as a farmer and as a responsible member of the Bucks County farming community.
